Motorcycles - Dirt or Road?
By Dennis Sorensen
Motorcycles, dirt or road? Dirt bikes provide an excellent way for recreating in the outdoors. I grew up riding dirt bikes. My friends and I totally enjoyed off-road dirt bike activities. We would traverse open fields and hills and take rides into the mountains and anywhere we could be away from the roadways. We always had an enjoyable time, without damaging mother nature, of course. I never really considered riding in traffic or on paved roads, ever! There was always a sense of fear sharing the road with the crazy drivers. And especially fearing those drivers who don't see motorcycles was a critical factor as well. But one day a friend of mine invited me and my wife to take a road trip on motorcycles over a particular weekend. Since he had an extra HarleyDavidson motorcycle, I took him up on his offer. Oh my, I was hooked! And my wife was hooked too. What an experience! There is nothing like riding a motorcycle on the open road. It's nothing like taking a ride in a car, especially even a convertible. I felt totally exhilerated being in God's world. Riding a motorcycle is so unconfining. You are so close to nature. The fragrances of nature are so marvelous. As we rode along in late April, we experienced smelling lilacs, pine trees, wild flowers and various delightful fragrances of nature. It was magnificent! So which do I recommend, dirt or road motorcycling? After several motorcycle road trips, I have to say I much prefer road trips to dirt biking. Why? To me it's very relaxing. There's never a rush to get to a destination. I enjoy the journey wherever I go. If you've never experienced a motorcycle road trip, you haven't really lived, in my opinion!
